Basket with a lid, essentially woven from titica vine in natural color or dyed with plant pigments extracted from seeds, leaves, and tree resins. Used in villages to store various objects such as fishing and hunting utensils, clothes, ornaments, and, in some cases, food. The rigidity of the weave stands out, bringing extreme resistance and beautiful symmetry to the piece. The technique of this type of basketry was acquired decades ago through contact with other indigenous peoples and is currently part of the material culture of the Yanomami of the Marauiá River.
\nThe piece was acquired through Pró-Arte Yanomami, a program for the cultural valorization and fair commercialization support of Yanomami handicrafts. It is an initiative of the Yanomami leaders of the Marauiá River, with the support of Pró-Amazônia for the commercialization of their traditional crafts.
\nPró-Arte Yanomami is a nonprofit social program that aims for sustainability, cultural appreciation, and fair trade. It is structured on five fundamental values: cultural appreciation, environmental and social sustainability, indigenous autonomy, income generation, and fair trade.
\nMotorohima basket made from natural fiber by the Yanomami Ethnic Group in the Amazon.
