The Buriti Palm is also known as miriti or mbiriti in Tupi-Guarani, which means "that which contains water" or "tree of life." It holds great socio-cultural importance. Its fruits are used to make sweets and liqueurs, and its leaves undergo fiber processing, popularly known as buriti linen.
\n
\nSome say it is named the "tree of life" because it fulfills all human needs, as every part of it is utilized.
\n
\nThe process of collecting raw materials, extracting and managing the fiber is entirely done by hand and involves care in alternating palm tree collection, to fiber cooking. The final work, done through crochet and macramé, not only looks beautiful but also offers great resistance and the benefit of not easily wrinkling. This ensures the preservation of this cultural and traditional knowledge.
